A lovely testimonial from a previous course participant Janet Lancaster
I recently participated in a residential poetry course with Kim Moore and Jennifer Copley as tutors. You could not ask for more approachable people to lead you. The course was held in the peaceful surroundings of Abbot Hall Hotel at Kent’s Bank, near Grange over Sands. It proved to be a wonderful week.
I have been on numerous residentials led by a variety of well-known tutors and I have to say this one was up there with the best. Jenny and Kim had made huge efforts to provide a range of stimuli – published poems and text, music, pictures and photographs, the tactile, triggers from personal memories, etc. Participants were encouraged to respond creatively and to share one another’s writing for constructive, good humoured criticism.
Under Kim and Jenny’s friendly leadership, the group gelled well: we also shared moments of spontaneous laughter, not to mention the sheer pleasure of hearing newly hatched poems. The writing was impressive, especially given it had been produced in a matter of a few minutes.
End result: I have returned from their workshops with more than 20 fledgling poems and increased confidence that some will actually fly!
In the evenings we were treated to brilliant readings from Kim and Jenny and also from two excellent, though contrastingly different, guest poets, Andrew Forster and Carole Coates.
In all, great value for money!
I can recommend Kim and Jenny’s courses and I hope to participate in further ones.
